When You Tango
Acrylic painting on cotton with sequined laced fractal
Inspired by the beat of Buenos Aires. Where every street plaza is alive with Tango dancers. Falling in love is so easy that you soon forget about anything else.

How this artwork became
Hunting through a 2nd hand store, a framed material caught my eye. Blues and mauves swirling in and out of each other. On repeat across the material. Overlaid with silver sequins that directed your eyes into and around the fractal image. So, I bought it. Of course. No intention to paint on it.
Until, I did. First, two tango dancers. Then streetlamps. Then I painted in the background. What could become of this painting? Anything was possible. And it was there I stopped. Stuck. For 12 months.
Until I found it recently while cleaning out my studio. Instantly drawn in by the tango dancers. I was going to paint the story of Buenos Aires. Where you fall in love. The magic of the music in the streets. Tango dancers in the plazas. The food and the beat of the cosmopolitan city life. And the swirl of love in the air when nothing else matters.
If you look close enough, you can see the original fractal pattern giving depth to the painting.
